Class:Heavy-Duty Enterprise
Revenue:~$8B (M365 segment)
ENGINE (Core Platform)EXCELLENT
Persistent chat HD video (300 pax) File collaboration Channels & threads Meeting recording
Engine running strong at 270M daily users. All core cylinders firing: chat, video, files, channels, and telephony unified in a single block. 93% of Fortune 100 companies running this engine. Forrester TEI study (April 2023) reports 291% ROI over three years. The most powerful all-in-one powertrain in the garage.
TRANSMISSION (Integrations)GOOD
M365 native 700+ 3rd-party apps Power Automate Non-MS ecosystem
Transmission shifts beautifully within the Microsoft drivetrain — Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power BI engage instantly. 700+ third-party app tiles available (Trello, Asana, Jira, Salesforce). However, gears grind when connecting to Google Workspace or non-Microsoft toolchains. Power Automate adds workflow automation. Smooth in its own lane; stiffer outside it.
BRAKES (Security & Compliance)EXCELLENT
HIPAA GDPR FedRAMP SOC 2 E2E encryption
Best braking system in the entire garage. Full compliance certification suite: HIPAA (healthcare), FedRAMP (government), GDPR (EU), SOC 2 (enterprise audit). The only vehicle cleared for regulated-road driving in healthcare, finance, and government sectors. No other vehicle in 2023 matches this stopping power.
ELECTRICAL (AI & Intelligence)FAIR
Live captions (30+ lang) Transcription Copilot AI (announced)
Live captions in 30+ languages and meeting transcription are operational. Copilot AI was announced in late 2023 but not widely deployed — this is an upgrade coming in 2024, not a 2023 feature. Electrical system functional but not yet at the AI level of the Zoom Roadster's included AI Companion. Rating reflects current capability, not announced roadmap.
BODY & PAINT (User Experience)FAIR
Together Mode Breakout rooms Lightweight feel Intuitive for new users
The Cruiser is a heavy vehicle — high CPU and RAM consumption on older hardware causes lag, stuttering, and fan noise. Interface is feature-dense but not intuitive for first-time drivers. Messaging experience, while functional, feels heavier than the Slack Connector's fluid chat. Together Mode and breakout rooms add charm. Body is solid but not sleek.
FUEL ECONOMY (Pricing)EXCELLENT
Essentials $4/user/mo Basic $6/user/mo Standard $12.50 Premium $22
Best fuel economy in the garage. Essentials at $4/user/mo is the lowest paid entry of any vehicle (Zoom Pro is $13.32, Slack Pro is $7.25). M365 bundle delivers extraordinary value: Office apps, email, storage, and Teams in one payment. The vehicle that costs the least per mile of collaboration driven. Free tier available for personal use.
Road Test Results
Cruiser handles all terrain: internal meetings, external calls, file collaboration, task management, and telephony. Acceleration is slower than the Roadster on pure video performance. Handling is heavy in tight spaces (resource consumption). But on long enterprise highways, no other vehicle carries as much cargo as reliably. Best-in-class for all-in-one workloads.
Mechanic's Recommendation
PASS. The 2023 Cruiser is the garage's most complete vehicle — meetings, chat, files, calls, and tasks in one chassis, at the lowest price per seat. The compliance braking system is unmatched. Recommended for: Microsoft 365 shops, regulated industries, and large enterprises. Watch for: high resource consumption, steep learning curve, and Copilot AI still pending. Upgrade to 2024 model when Copilot deploys.

Owner:Zoom Video Communications, San José CA
Class:Video Sports Car
Market:#1 in 80 countries
ENGINE (Video Conferencing)EXCELLENT
Adaptive bitrate Low-bandwidth resilience Breakout rooms Virtual backgrounds
The finest video engine in the garage. Adaptive bitrate delivers clear HD even on poor connections — no other vehicle handles bad roads this well. Breakout rooms, polls, Q&A, reactions, and virtual backgrounds make the driving experience engaging. 71% of surveyed professionals choose this vehicle. Still #1 in 80 countries by search volume.
TRANSMISSION (Integrations)EXCELLENT
2,000+ marketplace apps Slack (mature) Google Workspace Salesforce
2,000+ apps in the Zoom Marketplace — one of the broadest integration catalogues. Connects smoothly with Slack (most mature pairing), Google Workspace, Salesforce, Asana, Miro, and Microsoft Outlook. The only vehicle in the garage that runs equally well on any road surface — completely ecosystem-independent. Some integrations are surface-level but breadth is exceptional.
ELECTRICAL (AI & Intelligence)GOOD
AI Companion (free) Meeting summaries Kites GmbH acquisition
AI Companion launched in 2023 and included free on all paid plans — generates meeting summaries, identifies action items, drafts messages. This is ahead of the Cruiser's Copilot (announced, not yet deployed). Kites GmbH acquisition (mid-2023, $250M) adds real-time machine translation capability. Most advanced AI electrical system actually available in 2023.
BODY & PAINT (User Experience)EXCELLENT
Intuitive interface Minimal training needed Persistent chat depth
The sleekest body in the garage. Any driver can operate this vehicle immediately — the interface is universally recognised. Setup takes minutes. The bodywork loses points only for Zoom Chat, which is a glove compartment, not a cargo hold: most drivers pair this vehicle with the Slack Connector for day-to-day messaging.
FUEL ECONOMY (Pricing)FAIR
Free (40 min, 100 pax) Pro $13.32/user/mo Business $18.32
Higher fuel cost than the Cruiser ($13.32/mo Pro vs $4/mo Essentials). Free tier has the shortest range in the garage — 40-minute group cap (Cruiser and Glide both offer 60 min). However, AI Companion is included free on paid plans, while the Cruiser's Copilot will cost extra. Sports car pricing: you pay more per mile but the driving experience is superior.
Road Test Results
The Roadster is the fastest, most responsive vehicle in the garage on video roads. Acceleration from cold start to meeting is unmatched. Handles beautifully on low-bandwidth gravel. Webinars and large events up to 10,000 viewers run flawlessly. Not designed for cargo (persistent messaging, file management) — this is a purpose-built sports car, not an SUV.
Mechanic's Recommendation
PASS. The 2023 Roadster remains the #1 video vehicle globally. AI Companion (free on paid) is the best electrical system actually deployed in 2023. Recommended for: client meetings, webinars, external communication, and cross-platform teams. Watch for: messaging gap (pair with Connector), higher base cost, 40-min free cap. The vehicle that everyone recognises and anyone can drive.

ENGINE (Messaging)EXCELLENT
Channels & threads Search (full history) Slack Connect Workflow Builder
The finest messaging engine in the garage — no contest. Channels, threaded conversations, instant search, emoji reactions, custom statuses, and Slack Connect (cross-org channels) create the most fluid text communication experience available. 87% of drivers report improved collaboration. Workflow Builder enables no-code automation. $1.7B revenue in 2023 (+17% YoY).
TRANSMISSION (Integrations)EXCELLENT
2,000+ app integrations GitHub, Jira, Figma Salesforce (deep) Zoom (mature)
2,000+ integration ports — the highest-capacity cargo bay in the garage. GitHub, Jira, Asana, Figma, Notion, Datadog, PagerDuty, Google Workspace, and Salesforce (parent company — deep CRM integration since 2021 acquisition). The Connector doesn't just carry tools — it becomes the nervous system connecting them all. ~5% market share but disproportionate influence in dev/creative sectors.
PASSENGER CAPACITY (Video)POOR
Huddles (audio/video) Large meetings Webinars
The Connector's biggest limitation. Huddles provide lightweight audio/video for quick chats (~50 people max) but cannot compete with the Roadster or Cruiser for serious video meetings. No webinar capability. Only 14% of Slack users use built-in video. This vehicle requires a Roadster (Zoom) or Glide (Meet) towed behind it for video needs.
FUEL ECONOMY (Pricing)GOOD
Free (90-day history) Pro $7.25/user/mo Business+ $12.50
Mid-range fuel cost. Free tier is limited: 90-day message history and 10 integrations — restrictive for production use. Pro at $7.25/user/mo unlocks full history and unlimited integrations. Business+ at $12.50 adds SSO and compliance. 3-user minimum on paid plans. Costs compound when adding a separate video vehicle.
Road Test Results
The Connector is a specialised utility vehicle — it excels at one thing (messaging + integrations) better than anything else in the garage. It's not a sports car and not an SUV. It's the vehicle that makes every other tool in your fleet work together. Developer teams, creative agencies, and multi-tool organisations will find no better van. Just don't expect it to win any races on video roads.
Mechanic's Recommendation
PASS. The 2023 Connector is the messaging and integration specialist — unmatched channel-based communication, 2,000+ integration ports, and Slack Connect for cross-org work. Recommended for: dev teams, creative agencies, Salesforce-driven organisations. Watch for: video limitation (pair with Roadster), 90-day free-tier restriction, per-user costs at scale. The vehicle that makes your entire fleet smarter.

2023 Google Glide EV
Electric City Car · Zero-Installation · Browser-Native
⚑ CONDITIONAL
VIN:GOOG-MEET-2017-WS
Odometer:~5.3% video market share
Owner:Google LLC, Mountain View CA
Class:Compact Electric (Workspace)
Trend:#1 in 28 countries (students 62%)
ENGINE (Video Conferencing)GOOD
Browser-native (no download) One-click join Companion Mode (mid-2023) Advanced host controls
The only fully browser-native engine — no download, no install, no friction. Companion Mode (launched mid-2023) lets in-room participants access polls, Q&A, and chat on their own devices during hybrid meetings. Google Docs co-editing during calls is unique. Engine is reliable and efficient but lacks the raw horsepower of the Roadster and the cargo capacity of the Cruiser. Best suited for short city drives.
TRANSMISSION (Integrations)FAIR
Gmail / Calendar Google Drive / Docs Broad 3rd-party ecosystem
Transmission is seamless within Google Workspace — Gmail scheduling, Calendar one-click join, Drive file sharing, and Docs/Sheets/Slides real-time co-editing are deeply native and frictionless. Third-party integration ecosystem is narrower than the Roadster (2,000+) or Connector (2,000+). The Glide drives beautifully on Google roads but has fewer gear options on unfamiliar terrain.
FUEL ECONOMY (Pricing)EXCELLENT
Free (60 min, 100 pax) Starter $6/user/mo Standard $12/user/mo
The most fuel-efficient free tier: 60-minute meetings with 100 participants — beats the Roadster's 40-minute cap. Paid plans via Google Workspace ($6–$18/user/mo) include Gmail, Drive, Docs, and more — outstanding bundle value for Google-native organisations. The electric car of collaboration: low cost, low maintenance, quiet operation.
PASSENGER CAPACITY (Scale)FAIR
100 (free/starter) 500 (Business Plus) 1,000+ (Enterprise only)
Entry-level seating of 100 is lower than the Cruiser's 300. Business Plus ($18/mo) extends to 500. Enterprise (custom) reaches 1,000 with live streaming. The Glide is a city car — excellent for daily commutes but not designed for 500-person highway convoys. Google Chat (the messaging companion) is less developed than the Connector's channel system or the Cruiser's persistent chat.
Road Test Results
The Glide is the easiest vehicle in the garage to operate. Zero installation, zero learning curve, zero fuss. It starts instantly from any browser. The 60-minute free range is the best in class. Google Docs in-meeting co-editing is a unique feature no other vehicle offers as natively. #1 in 28 countries, preferred by 62% of students. Rated CONDITIONAL because limited feature ceiling and narrow integration scope may not satisfy enterprise drivers.
Mechanic's Recommendation
CONDITIONAL PASS. The 2023 Glide is the garage's most efficient city car — zero-friction start, generous free tier, and unmatched Google Workspace integration. Recommended for: Google-native teams, startups, educators, budget-conscious organisations. Watch for: limited advanced features, smaller participant caps, narrow third-party integrations, Google Chat messaging gaps. Pass for its intended use; conditional for enterprise-scale needs.
